Restrooms for Rochester Festivals and Parties
Rochester runs on outdoor events. The Corn Hill Arts Festival draws more than 150,000 visitors a year, and the Rochester International Jazz Festival counted 208,000 in 2019. Big shows like these have large organizers, but a church fair, neighborhood festival or block party needs the same planning on a smaller scale.
A festival porta potty rental from us includes delivery, setup, servicing and pickup, with extra service visits for multi-day events. Tell us the date, the place and the crowd you expect, and we will help you pick the units.
How Many Units Does Your Event Need?
Our planning rule is about one unit for every 50 guests at an event of around four hours. Add 10 to 20 percent when food and drinks are served, and more if the event runs longer. This is our own planning guide, not a rule set by the City or any organizer. For a four-hour event with food:
- 100 guests: 2 to 3 units
- 250 guests: 5 to 6 units
- 500 guests: 10 to 12 units
- 1,000 guests: 20 to 24 units
- 2,000 guests: 40 to 48 units
Spread units across two or more spots so lines stay short, on firm ground with room for our truck. Add an ADA accessible unit for guests who need one, and a hand washing station near any food. For price ranges, see our Rochester pricing guide.
Where to Place Porta Potties at Your Event
A festival porta potty rental works best when the units are easy to reach for both guests and our truck. Before delivery day, walk the site and check these points:
- Truck access. We deliver and service units by truck, so keep a clear path and a spot to turn around.
- Firm, level ground. Avoid slopes and soft grass that turns to mud after rain.
- Distance. Keep units easy to find, but away from food tables and the main stage.
- Lighting. Units have no power, so for evening events place them near lit areas or bring lights.
- Signs and accessible path. Put signs at busy corners, and place the accessible unit on the shortest flat route.
Plan Around Rochester’s Event Season
Many Rochester events return in the same month each year, though exact dates change, so check each event website. The season starts with the Lilac Festival in May. June brings Fairport Canal Days, Harbor Fest at Ontario Beach Park and the Jazz Festival. July has the Corn Hill Arts Festival and the Pride Festival in Highland Park, and August has the Clothesline Art Festival. Roc Holiday Village runs from late November into December.
Warm weekends fill up first, so book as soon as your date is set. If you are a vendor at an event run by someone else, ask the organizer first, because restrooms may already be arranged. Cold-weather events need units prepared so they do not freeze, so ask us about this when you book.
Permits, Parks and Block Parties
Events on city streets or in public parks can need a permit, and block parties usually do. Our rules and permits guide covers the City permit types, fees and deadlines. Portable toilets are not listed as a separate City requirement, but your permit or park may set its own rules, so confirm with the City before you book.
Choose the Right Unit for Your Party
- Standard porta potty rental for most festivals, fairs and block parties.
- Deluxe flushing units for galas and guests who expect more comfort.
- Restroom trailer rental for very large crowds. For a smaller private party, see our wedding porta potty rental guide.
